RR Donnelley continuously strives to increase the profitability of managing the life-cycle of titles. Our new Inventory Management Solution (IMS) is a replenishment model that allows the cost-effectiveness and improved financial performance of lower quantity print runs and tighter inventory control. Because offset printing is costly at low counts, our goal was to create a cost-effective approach to printing in smaller quantities. IMS utilizes automated digital printing and inline binding to enable publishers to print smaller quantities more frequently throughout the year, and create improved cash flow through improved inventory turns.
The Inventory Management Solution production flow makes print runs of 500 to 2,000 copies affordable through a combination of technology and automation. From administration through fulfillment, a publisher’s total costs are lowered and working capital improved. The IMS approach offers more than technological printing capabilities: it delivers a full continuum of services that include title administration, ordering, low quantity printing, distribution, and fulfillment. Providing savings by eliminating the need for excess inventory, IMS reduces costs associated with warehousing, obsolescence and damage to inventory from handling—allowing publishers to free-up capital, react more quickly to markets, and manage backlist and reprint titles more efficiently.
